Privacy
Hark has no accounts, no ads and no tracking. Your voice goes to ModelRelay to be turned into text and back, and your conversation goes to your own Hermes gateway. Apart from a one-time setup handoff through heyhark.app, nothing else leaves your iPhone.
What leaves your iPhone
- Your voice, to ModelRelay
- When you finish speaking, Hark sends that recording to ModelRelay to transcribe it, using the ModelRelay key you set up. It sends the text of each reply to ModelRelay to turn it into speech. ModelRelay and the speech models it routes to handle this audio and text under ModelRelay's own privacy policy.
- Your conversation, to your Hermes gateway
- What you said, as text, goes to the Hermes gateway you connected Hark to, which runs on a computer you control. Hermes, and whatever model provider you configured it with, then handles your conversation under your own setup. Hark also loads past conversations and the list of models from that gateway.
- Setup, through heyhark.app
- When you copy the setup prompt, Hark registers a one-time pairing code with heyhark.app, which we run on Cloudflare. Hermes sends your gateway address and keys there, and Hark collects them. They're deleted the moment Hark collects them, and everything about the pairing is deleted after 15 minutes. heyhark.app also counts how many setups reach each step (started, finished by Hermes, collected by Hark) and how long each took, so we can see where setup gets stuck. Those counts aren't tied to the pairing code, your IP address or your keys.
All of these connections use HTTPS. Apart from setup, Hark doesn't send anything to us, and Hark contains no analytics, advertising or crash-reporting code.
What stays on your iPhone
- Live transcription. The words that appear while you talk come from Apple's on-device speech recognizer, which doesn't send your audio anywhere.
- Keys. Your gateway and ModelRelay keys are kept in the iPhone's Keychain, on this device only.
- Settings and recent conversations. Your gateway address, settings, and the transcripts of recent conversations are stored in the app, so they appear without waiting on the network.
- Latency log. Hark records how long each step of a voice turn took (timings and the kind of network, not what you said). It stays on the device unless you choose to share it from Settings.
- Notifications and Live Activities are created on the device. Hark doesn't use push notifications.
Hark doesn't keep your recordings: each one is deleted once it's been transcribed.
Deleting your data
Log Out in Hark removes your keys and the cached transcripts from your iPhone. Deleting the app removes everything Hark stored. Conversations kept by Hermes live on your computer, and you manage them there. To ask ModelRelay about data it holds, contact ModelRelay.
Children
Hark isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect data from them. Apart from the setup counts above, which identify no one, we don't collect data from anyone.
